AJFC Community Action Agency recently held a community day to raise awareness to their program. The AJFC is a private, non-profit corporation chartered under the laws of the State of Mississippi in 1966.
Along with having an office in Lincoln County, AJFC has locations in Adams, Claiborne, Copiah, Jefferson, Franklin and Lawrence counties. They provide services from The Community Services Block Grant, The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, Earned Income Tax Credits and Mississippi Food Network Program (Adams County only).
The CSBG aids low income individuals and families: secure and retain meaningful employment; attain an adequate education: improve the use of available income, obtain adequate housing and, obtain emergency assistance including health and nutrition services; remove obstacles which block the achievement of self sufficiency; and achieve greater participation in the affairs of the community. LIHEAP helps low income households with their home energy bills. EITC provides free income tax services to low-income families.
Lincoln County representatives of AJFC are service intake workers Kimberly Ford and Monique Manciel, and caseworker Shirlon Kelly. Their office is located on 127 North First St., Brookhaven, and can be reached at 601-833-6349.
