Giving Communities A Lift So They Can Climb

Poverty is a deeply rooted and complex issue affecting communities nationwide. Since 1966, AJFC Community Action, Inc. (AJFC) has been a staple in Southwest Mississippi, providing support services that empower families with limited resources to become self-sufficient. We're committed to ensuring that every family in Southwest Mississippi has access to resources that will equip them to live above the poverty line.

Community Services

More than 560,000 Mississippians live in poverty. Here’s how we’re helping break that cycle.

  • LIHEAP is a Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program that helps keep low-income families safe and healthy, assisting with heating and cooling costs to achieve energy self-sufficiency while avoiding utility disruption.

  • The Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) helps individuals and families create pathways to economic security by providing rental, mortgage, nutrition and tuition assistance through intensive case management, guidance, and referrals.

  • Free tax preparation services and asset-building education opportunities for all low to moderate-income families.

  • Through our weatherization program, we are keeping low-income families and individuals safe by making homes more energy efficient.

Impacting Lives, Advancing Communities

We’re committed to fulfilling the promises of community action by addressing social issues, promoting community development, and empowering community members to be self-reliant. Collaborating with our partners, volunteers and community members, we’ve made a measurable difference in Southwest Mississippi. Here’s a snapshot of our impact.
